My Roundette Secret Garden!

Prepare to be enchanted! “My Roundette” features a semi-private garden that is nothing less than magical. Tall Phlox, Roses, and Comfrey captivate the eye. Emerald Green Arborvitaes, a Purple Leaf Plum, and a Fig Tree provide shade and privacy. The garden is surrounded by a wigwam fence made from Locust Wood. Enjoy the beauty of this garden while sitting on a red metal bench.

Aerial View!!

Please enjoy this aerial view of a piece of The Cove at Fairview that was taken by a drone. On the bottom left is the barn, on the middle right is My Roundette, above that is the Garden Cabin, and on the top right is Our House. My Place (not pictured) is just up the mountain. These homes are nestled in our lovely mountain cove!

Refurbished Wood!!

Every house at The Cove at Fairview features paneling and/or furniture made from refurbished wood. The types of wood are Wormy Chestnut, Oak, & Heart Pine. The Wormy Chestnut comes from 2 barns we purchased. One was a dairy barn and one was originally to dry tobacco. The Heart Pine comes from a family home built in 1919. The Refurbished wood gives The Cove at Fairview a touch of rustic elegance and warm memories.

Baby Chicks!!

Children love holding our chicks. This year we bought Arucanas, Laced Wyandottes, and Turkens. This is our first year having Turkens. Turkens have no feathers on their necks. The chicks are all 10 weeks old. At 12 weeks they will be able to jump up and perch. They will start laying eggs at 6 months.

Feeding the Koi Fish!

This week we welcome Spring. We fed the Koi Fish their first feeding of the Spring. Koi Fish semi-hibernate through the Winter. Our Koi Fish have been awake for over 2 months. However, we have to wait until the weather is consistently warm to feed them. This year we have had some cold weather later than normal. The Koi Fish are very excited to be fed and children are very excited to feed them!

New Picnic Table!!

Our latest improvement is a picnic table on flower hill. Guests climb up steep steps made of railroad ties with a newly added rope rail. Flower hill features seasonal wildflowers including Yarrow and Iron Weed. At the picnic table you have a great view of a gentle mountain. Mountain filtered sunshine creates a magical morning view. Also, enjoy a great view of the barn and watch our three horses in the pasture.

Spring Gardening!!

Today we dusted off our gardening tools and inventoried our gardens. Then we got our hands in the dirt! We filled several oversized flower pots with marigolds, rosemary, and other culinary herbs. Guests enjoy this splash of color when walking to the barn. More gardening updates to come soon!

New Wood Paneling!!

We are constantly updating our houses – a new piece of furniture, a new gizmo for the kitchen, etc. Our latest improvement is at The Huntley Cabin. We have added light brown paneling to the stairwell. This highlights our accent pieces which include a model car. We are excited to share this update with our guests.

Farm Fresh Eggs!

Whether you scramble or fry, soufflé or poach, eggs are a joy to cook with. Our guests receive eggs, butter, PAM, and homemade bread – everything you need for a scrumptious breakfast (or any meal)! Our eggs are different shapes, sizes & colors. For example, the Speckled Sussex lays light brown eggs, the Black Copper Maran lays dark brown eggs, & the Araucana lays blue eggs. Guests love meeting our chickens! Some personal tips from our kitchen: try mixing the eggs with an electric blender for extra fluffy scrambled eggs. Also, you can add sour cream to eggs before you beat them. Enjoy!

Heirloom Furniture

The Cove at Fairview has recently acquired several beautiful pieces of antique furniture.

  • My Roundette now features an antique wardrobe with plenty of space to hang clothes as well as shelf space.
  • The Huntley now features a gorgeous Walnut bed and dresser.  The main bedroom now features an antique wardrobe.

These pieces of furniture are all family heirlooms and we are honored to share part of our family history with our guests.
